It is good when you have somebody to hold you

To get this shot (BTW, this is 5 RAW exposures HDR) I was almost leaning to the water, hanging from the dock. Friend was holding my legs to prevent me falling completely.

I've used angle finder to take a shot, as I was on top of the camera. I wanted to catch that yellow highlights from under the dock (from a boats on other side), and the only way to get it was to have camera very low.
Still such tricky shots is a real fun for me:-)

Enjoy an share!

*"Haena Reflections" North Shore, Kauai, Hawaii

1 minute of bliss on Kauai's Jungle-like north shore. A low tide allows reflections like this.

The Story

In the summer, the sun rises in the northeast, allowing the mountains to be lit with the first light of the day. In the winter, they are silhouetted and dark. I used a very dark filter to extend the exposure time to a full 60 seconds to show the movement in the clouds and trees and the stillness of the water. This is a great snorkeling beach with lots of turtles and fish in tunnel-like coral formations. It is a great place to spend an entire day under the False Kamani trees to the left. Bring an umbrella for the occasional but sometimes intense rain shower!

Other stuff

My pictures are featured on the front page of California Governor, Jerry Brown's website

I wrote a 325 eBook that describes exactly how I went about learning photography starting in 2006. I did not learn the usual way. I have studied the great masters of painting and hope to find that light in the real world.

A great weather mashup map of the world with local temperatures, weather and nice popups. See where it is hot and not! (Must wait for slow commercials first, but worth it!)
Google Earth

Simply the best way to scout out locations that there is. You can see sun angles and pre-visualize light under lots of different conditions. Sometimes you can actually pre-compose your shots! This has saved me many thousands of vertical feet of climbing by avoiding spots with blocked views etc.

Satellite imagery (choose 'National' for a local US region or use your fave website)

Tide charting and preditions: (chose your area in US, other countries have similar websites)

Wave Heights (I choose 'North Pacific from Global')

Or Here:

Photos of every inch of the California coastline from a small plane. Excellent for close in detailed views.

The Sky at Atlanta downtown

I never liked to live in downtown.. in any city I use to live. I like walking streets, spending time in cafe's talkign to strangers but I would never live there.
This shot is the answer why: I need more sky!

This is 3 raw exposure HDR, Photomatix+ photoshop. Added slight tint to make it you feel what I was feeling:-)
Are you ok living among city-scrapers?

It’s already St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland, so we hope you’re wearing green. Today’s colorful Celtic doodle celebrating Lá Fhéile Pádraig is inspired by illuminated manuscripts such as the Book of Kells.
