Holy cow. Wouldn't this be a spectacle in a RPG world? Giant marionettes going to battle in the streets... a steampunk or medieval version of Battletech!

After many many years away from running a fresh campaign, I have to say I'm having a blast running this from-scratch adventure series with a great group of folks. They have been hot on the trail of a missing girl who disappeared into the sewers beneath the City-State of Zhilin. And as newly-appointed city guards in the city, it's their job to find her.

We had a good time in the second session of the campaign and had zero combat at all... just some good old fashioned puzzle solving and chatting with fictional characters. :) (They fought some giant rats in the first session and made quick work of them.)

As our heroes tried valiantly to open the trap door in the floor to get into the world beneath the sewers, the first drops of rain could be heard outside and soon a trickle became a rush and time was of the essence. Would they survive?

I have some fun combat in store for them in the next session and we'll see who all survives. Muahaha... (I feel my evil GM self emerging...)

Last week we continued the adventures of the Zhilin City Guard in the World of the Lost Age. They're still hot on the trail of a missing girl who has literally entered the underworld of the city. A world 'Neath the very sewers themselves.

In this half of the summary, our heroes barely enter the sewers when it starts to rain... But I'm getting ahead of myself. Stay tuned for the next installment on Friday!

(I'm sad that our next session won't be until June, but we will play again! And our players have some work to do. :) )

It has been many years since I've run anything but modules or pre-written adventures from my arsenal, so it's been very intriguing to go back to just episodic campaign development and only writing a little at a time. This time, the ambiguity of a single NPC led to some interesting connections I look forward to exploring in future sessions.

What's your favorite NPC, thread, or item that's started out as something ambiguous in your campaigns and developed into something key to the story?

So this past weekend I did some planning for the Zhilin campaign... And I came to the realization that I already had a bunch of tools available. Things I'd written previously and released as products. Go figure. It's so nice to stumble into that realization when you've been lost writing other stuff for a while. :)
