We are so happy with our decision to stay at the Summerland Waterfront Resort. There are no other spots in Summerland that even compare! Right on the water with a private boardwalk, beach and upscale restaurant. The staff was very helpful and friendly and had a good sense of humor which made our stay a little more personal. As much as the hotel met and exceeded our expectations, we were also very pleasantly surprised at how close we were to a public playground, water/spray park & covered picnic area with large grassy playing field which was right on the beach! Perfect Family hotel, perfect location and you can't beat the September weather!

Beautiful hotel but you will be treated horribly by staff, very poor customer service. It's too bad because it is in a great location.

Great service and very nice resort. Rooms were nice and views were great. Nice walk along seawall to two great swimming beaches. (very close to the resort) Nice for families! Would stay again.

Great place with private beach and boating services. It is relatively new construction so you it still has smell of a new resort. Service is good, rooms are clean, Local restaurant is delicious.

Hey folks, my husband and I decided to go camping and what a terrible mistake that was - RAIN! I quickly looked up pet friendly hotels in Summerland and low and behold, Summerland Lakeside Resort was the only result. I immediately packed up my gear, my dog oh yeah and my hubby and drove to Summerland Lakeside Resort. Once there, they checked us in early. Thank you! Our room was a simple studio facing the bluffs. We actually only planned to stay there one night but by around 9pm that evening we called down to the front lobby to reserve another night. Awesome! Room - Fabulous. Great, FULL kitchen. Now that's what I call home away from home. Good layout. If you want more space, upgrade. Otherwise the room was perfect for our needs with a bath / shower in the bathroom, a full kitchen (as noted), a living / sleeping area with balcony and a fireplace. Pool - We had a great time in the outdoor heated pool and swirlpool. Actually we had the place to ourselves. It does close early so get down before too late in the evening. The bird sanctuary was heaven on earth. What amazing sounds... like being in a luxury spa. Reception - We were waiting for our room to be confirm, pulled into the underground parkade and were blown away that the front desk agent came down to deliver our keys. First class service. Summerland - In general, we enjoyed the local pubs, walking about, WINE - hello!. Would definitely come back. Our usual hot spot is the Harrison Hot Springs Resort to compare - you get more bang for your buck at Summerland Lakeside Resort. But we love both. See you soon for the Sumac Ridge Winery 30th Anniversary!

The Giant's Head Mountain is a mountain destination with excellent views located in the Okanagan Valley community of Summerland, British Columbia, Canada. Giants Head Mountain was once a volcano. But how did it come to be known as the Giant's Head?

The rock's face which looks southeast (quite clear as one travels up Gartrell Road) resembles a man's profile and some people back in the early days of Summerland thought it most resembled Lord Shaftesbury. He was an empire builder who lived in England in the seventeenth century and led a group of dissidents within the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) who encouraged the Company to live up to their 1670 Royal Charter. The HBC had been created on paper as a colonizing agency, not just a trading company, and was supposed to promote settlement in Rupert's Land (later to be called Canada), but to Lord Shaftesbury's dismay, this didn't seem to be happening and it actually wouldn't happen in his lifetime.

The first official record of the name Giant's Head was in the field notes of Survey Lot Number 2561 which takes in most of the mountain. This land was pre-empted at about the turn of the century by one of Summerland's early land developers, James Ritchie. (However his wife Margaret claims that when she arrived in town everyone referred to the mountain as the Lion's Head.) William Fosbery, who was also around at the time, said that old-timers did not use the name Giant's Head and only before the "beard" eroded away did it really resemble Lord Shaftesbury.

The "W"'s of the Okanagan -  water, wine, and weather - yes, they are awesome!  Don't forget to explore Giant's Head Mountain, Kettle Valley Rail, Summerland Sweets for some goodies, Valentine's Farm, Ornamental Gardens for a picnic or a great round of golf in Summerland.  Here are a few more ideas ...

Okanagan Brigade paddles through the Okanagan
At the conclusion of that trip, he said he was presented with a small paddle titled Wine Brigade 2012, so he felt compelled to organize what he'd been talking about for several years: a paddling expedition through the lakes of the Okanagan Valley, coupled with the more-recent attraction ...
