I wrote down some computer science research ideas. Includes some examples and anecdotes: http://bassistance.de/2016/04/20/computer-science-research-ideas/
Every now and then I get emails from researchers (often students), asking me to participate in their particular study. Sometimes I participate, sometimes I don'

I wrote about what's going on with the jQuery Foundation this year, some past, some present, some outlooks to the near future: http://bassistance.de/2014/12/01/jquery-foundation-2014-roundup/
In January 2014, now 11 months ago, the jQuery Foundation published its new mission statement: To improve the open web, making it accessible for everyone, th

Patch release for my jQuery Validation plugin, version 1.13.1, is now live: http://bassistance.de/2014/10/14/release-validation-plugin-1-13-1/
This is a patch release for the jQuery Validation Plugin. It contains a few changes, though most notable is the fix for the newly implemented aria-describedby-b

I wrote a blog post about searching git history with recursive-blame.
The ability in Git to search through the commit history locally is one of the major reasons why I never want to work with SVN again. With Git there is no waitin

Moin!

I wrote about the OSX software I’m using these days: http://bassistance.de/2016/03/29/osx-software-five-years-later/ including a trick for using capslock to toggle iTerm2.
In November 2010, before my first MacBook even arrived, I asked Twitter for "must-have" OSX software and collected the results in a blog post. A year later, I p

“What is wrong with the world?” – that is a question I’ve been coming back to in the last few days. Whenever I read about some problem that stirs a lot of discussion, arguments and – all too often – anger, I wonder: Don’t we have more important problems to solve?

Nice hover effect on the home link of my online banking. Along with the dotted outline and colored background, it also shows a label telling you where this link will lead to.

One photo: Default state. The other: Hover state. "zur Startseite" means "to Homepage".

I was in a good mood when I noticed this, after thinking about the nice multi-line notifications on Android 4. Often I don't have to go to the text message app, since I can just read messages in the notification bar.

Then I noticed the above, posted it, organised the uploaded photos so that the default state would show up first, the hover state second... but not, G+ decides to order by filename (I guess) and completely ignore my custom order. Meh.

Nice, cozy place with very good burgers. Both regular (cheese) burger and the portobello mushroom burger (even if you aren't vegetarian) are good choices. Also works for take out. Sometimes they have interesting beer as well, like IPAs, but those are usually pretty expensive. Overall probably my favorite burger place in the city.

Small burger place very close to Wiener Platz. Menu with good burger, tasty fries (try the sweet potato fries!) and a drink for just 7€. Plenty of choices for burgers, also chicken wings (haven't tried those yet). Decoration is pretty bland and not very inviting, that cost them 1 star.

Best burritos in Köln. In the Californian style, with rice and wrapped in aluminum foil. Lots of options for meat, sauces and everything else.

Was pretty busy for a quick lunch, but worth the wait. Good burger and fries. Coleslaw wasn't quite how I like it. Not impressed with the special sauces, regular ketchup/mayo might have been a better choice.

Awesome Crêpes! So far only had a salty one. They also have a selection of sweet ones.
