I (Stuart) was sorting through some of our audio project folders yesterday and found George(Shilling)'s separated mix stems from the 2014 Space Oddity sessions. I was listening back to them in isolation, particularly Harri and Penny's layered vocals. With the TE recordings we tend to aim for the big, densely arranged productions, with lots of instrumentation and extended passages (as we did with this originally), but it struck me how good it sounded even with the bare minimum of parts - which is, of course, a testament to the original song and songwriter.

So I took the stems and stripped the mix down to the real basics of the song, taking out the extended instrumental passages and leaving just the keys and the vocals (and a few fx).

Anyway, as our small tribute to the late, great man and his fabulous songs here's a different take (for us) on Space Oddity.

Happy Friday all. We're pleased to announce we will be performing (and recording) an all-too-rare live set of Traffic Experiment tracks with the full live band at +The Electric Theatre in Guildford on Sat 5th September.

We'll be joined by the excellent +sjwrocks for a set of their heavy, progressive, power-trio-infused tracks.

Tickets will be available directly from the theatre's box office soon and we'll let you know as soon as they are available. So save the date and come along and see us.

Judging by the download stats a fair many of you have already discovered this, but if not, we've made a 7-track taster album - inventively titled 'Music by Traffic Experiment' - available to download all for the princely sum of nothing on bandcamp.

The album contains a couple of tracks from Blue Suburbia, a couple of live session tracks and a couple of covers (you know which ones).

Please feel free to share it far and wide if you can!

[Space Oddity]

While recording the b-side for the Vashta Nerada vinyl release, we also put the bare bones of this, based on a reinterpretation of the original version, down while we were all together in the studio. We finished it off a little earlier this year and it's now available to download (for free, no less!).

Recorded by and co-produced with George Shilling - Bank Cottage Studio, the track features the usual suspects of Stuart Chalmers, Harri Norris, Tom Vincent and Simon James White, with Phil Burns joining the studio band permanently to add some synth wizardry and T-34 vocalist (and HUGE Bowie fan) Penny Fazackerley doubling up with Harri for some big backing vocals.

It is now available to stream in full or download free from our Bandcamp store via the attached link in mp3, FLAC, ALAC (Apple Lossless), AAC, or Ogg Vorbis formats.

We are currently collaborating with FX Media for a short film using this version as much of its soundtrack. More details on that later in the year (relevant permissions pending etc).

For now, download, turn up and (hopefully) enjoy.

As a side project while working on album 2, we've also been writing a (short) short film and working with long-term collaborators and talented videographers FX Media to bring it to life. As part of that project we've recorded a reworking of a very well-known song as the main part of the soundtrack.

The film will hopefully come to light later on this year but the full version of this track will be available as a free download in the next couple of weeks. Well put out some more info nearer the time.

For now, here is a preview.

Happy New Year all!

We started 2013 having just recorded a live session in front of 4 cameramen, 3 engineers and handful of VIP guests and finished it playing live on TV to (we believe) around 1.5 million people (with a Blu-ray and our first vinyl release somewhere in between).

Once again, thank you for all your support over the last year, from buying our albums, to sharing our posts, streaming our music, watching our videos or just contacting us to tell us how much you've enjoyed what we do. We're constantly a little bit blown away by that and hope you continue to enjoy it into this year too.

We have quite a big year coming up. We'll start production on our next album (probably our most ambitious project yet) and we've also been working on a (very TE) reinterpretation of a classic track which we'll hopefully be doing a short film for and releasing as a free download/video in the interim. We are also planning some live shows over the summer.

Lots to do but hopefully our very best is yet to come.

Happy 2014 to you all!
