My friends and I have also been thinking about this idea for sometime now.....The ability to take molecules or even sub-atomic matter like protons/electron/neutrons and create literally anything.

Additionally, have you thought that a single device that would not only create the item that you wanted from atoms but would also act like a garbage disposal as well? Anyone could put anything into the device, the item would be scanned to create a molecular blueprint for future use and it would break that item all the way down to the molecular level and store this material for use when another person wishes to create any other item.

This would completely do away with trash/waste/pollution etc. There would never be a lack of matter to use as any item could be broken down to be the material for the next item to be created.

Think of this as the perfect recycling machine. All waste or unwanted items could be deconstructed to be used to create any other item.

Hope this gives you ideas or inspiration for the next iteration in this wonderful idea.
