Memory Monday from Camp T alumnus Mary Meehan Firtl:

I remember coming to camp so eager to spend the week and play, swim, eat, and have fun. Being the only girl in the family with two older brothers, I could never figure out my mother who would burst into tears when my parents came to pick me up at the end of the week. Flash forward to when I sent my own daughter to camp for the first time and after that first week, walked down the road by the dining hall and saw her...and proceeded to burst into tears myself! I finally "got it" and how special Tannadoonah is!

Memory Monday from Miss Amber:

When I was about 7 years old, we were having a Carnival Night at camp. Mrs. Murphy got up in front of everyone and said that she had always wanted to learn to twirl a baton, and would anyone be willing to show her how to do it? I had just gotten done taking baton lessons that spring, so I volunteered to "teach" her. After a few moments, she suddenly starting whirling around, twirling like an expert, and tossing the baton way into the air and doing tricks. What she hadn't told us is that she was a former professional performer! I remember being so impressed, but also very embarrassed at my attempts to "teach" her!

*please share your memories of Camp by private messaging us so that we can share them on Memory Mondays!

Song Sunday song of the week: Puff the Magic Dragon

Chorus: Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Hon-a-lee
Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Hon-a-lee

Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal, Puff
Brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff
Oh…

Chorus

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sails
Jackie kept a look-out perch on Puff’s gigantic tail
Noble queens and princes would bow when e’er they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flags when Puff roared out his name
Oh…

Chorus

Dragons live forever, but no so little boys
Painted wings and giant things make way for other toys
One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar
Oh…

Chorus

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his lifelong friend Puff could not be brave
So Puff that mighty dragon, he sadly slipped into his cave
Oh…

Chorus

Memory Monday from Camp T alumnus Ellen Lane:

I attended camp from 1957 thru about 1965. My first cabin was Cardinals as a Blue Bird and the last, of course, West Morris as a Horizon Girl. Miss Marsha was our counselor for a couple of years in West Morris. She would serenade us to sleep playing her guitar and singing. I particularly remember "Scarlet Ribbons." What fond memories from Tannadoonah. And, no, I never learned the Patter.
