I have recently become interested in early childhood education, a topic I know very little about.  I started pondering the following question:

What are the important content-independent skills / lessons that young children need to learn?

Some of my initial thoughts:

Problem-Solving Perseverance
the ability to work through a frustrating problem to the end.

Intellectual Discipline
the willingness to focus energy on learning and development

What other content-independent skills are important for young children?
