How does Google find the goofiest-looking frame of the video to feature as a teaser?  Regardless, this Hangout sponsored by the R Street Institute on the question, "Has Copyright Gone Too Far?" includes some solid content by me, Ryan Radia, Mitch Stoltz, and Derek Khanna.

This awe-inspiring (honestly!) article claims, among other things:

• Even on the clearest nights, we see only about 2,500 stars (roughly one hundred-millionth of the stars in our galaxy);

• There are roughly as many galaxies in our universe--100 to 400 billion--as there are stars in our own galaxy;

• That amounts to between 10^22 to 10^24 total stars in the universe, or 10,000 stars for every grain of sand on Earth;

• Conservative estimates conclude that are around 100 Earth-like planets for every grain of sand in the world.
Scientists estimate that there are over 100,000 intelligent alien civilizations in our galaxy alone—but we've never heard anything from any of them. Here are 13 possible explanations for why.

Cato recently hosted a book forum for "Intellectual Privilege," which GMU Prof. Chris Newman helped explicate with some insightful comments.

A puzzle for composers:  The refrain of my latest song runs vi – iim – V7 – I, then vi – iim – IV- IV7 - I.  (In the key of G, that's E - Am - D7 - G, then E - C- C7- G.) Sounds damn fine, but yields no matches on Hook Theory's database.  What gives?

This makes the first progression sound reasonably common:  http://www.playpiano.com/101-tips/28-VI-II-V7-I-chord-progression.htm.  The second one remains a mystery, however.

Wonder about the origins of the universe and the meaning of life? Join me and Robin Hanson at a "sim-posium" to be held this Thursday, May 7, at 6 pm, in Arlington, VA. We will discuss "Simulation Theology" (see link) and otherwise enjoy food, drink, and highfalutin' philo-fizin'. Message me for details.

I love it! This would be something that I would love to get in the hands of a couple of my old Paralegal Studies teachers who teach/taught IP.

My new book has officially escaped into its natural environment!  May it flourish, range widely, and not eat anybody's pets.
