When asked to take part in this event, I offered an ass-kicking, but was told to simply ask the first question. Which I did. Which he dodged.
The Chapman Dialogue on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, “Should We Lift the Ban on Buying and Selling Human Organs for Transplantation?” featured Professor Alexander Capron of the University of Southern California (USC), a professor of Law and Medicine and Co-Director of the Pacific Center for Health Policy and Ethics. At the well-attended talk, Professor Capron

During the photo, I said through gritted teeth, "I'm going to keep an eye on you. I know you think you have claim to my kidneys."

The Government of Honduras has published the official list of the 21 members of the Committee for Adoption of Best Practices, which will oversee the creation and management of that country's innovative ZEDE/LEAP Zones.  See the attached file.  What an incredible team of people!

I have often returned to this interesting paper by Robin Hanson.  Although he frames his analysis in normative terms, talking about how one "should" live if in a simulation, I prefer a positive take:  Given that we live, we most likely live in a simulation of a culture that advanced to creating . . . simulations of itself.

I offer as a corollary to that view:  As your contribution to creating the simulation you lived/live in increases, the more high-res and frequently run your story grows.  Query whether playing a key role in creating a simulated culture binds you, in some sense, to fate.  If Robin Hanson exists, must not he contribute mightily to bringing about his own simulation?

Saith Robin Hanson:  "If you might be living in a simulation then all else equal you should care less about others, live more for today, make your world look more likely to become rich, expect to and try more to participate in pivotal events, be more entertaining and praiseworthy, and keep the famous people around you happier and more interested in you."

To make legal systems better, we must make them compete against each other.
