Our new report out today: Half of cell owners in American have apps on their phones, up from 43% last year. And other signs of apps culture growing: 38% of cell owners have downloaded apps to their phones and about half of them have paid for their apps.

Most popular functions of apps for users:
1) regular updates about everyday information such as news, weather, sports, or stocks (74%)
2) communicate with friends and family (67%)
3) those that help the user learn about something in which they are interested (64%).
The share of cell phone owners who download apps nearly doubles in two years, but just 46% of downloaders have paid for an app.
