Pictured here is 5 year old Santos who has Leukemia. He immediately connected with Gus a 250-pound English Mastiff. Animal assisted therapy acts as a catalyst to motivate young patients to help themselves. A child who stubbornly refuses to get up and walk after surgery or make an effort to play will happily take a dog for a walk or play catch with them. The Phoenix Children's Hospital has over 40 volunteer therapy dogs.

Anna Kuperberg is based in San Francisco and is one of the countries top photographers at photographing Weddings, Children & Dogs. We were so thrilled when she agreed to document the Pet Therapy program for One Day at Phoenix Children's Hospital project.

Red wagons are the main mode of transportation for patients at Phoenix Children's. Shannon, a Child Life Specialist, takes Kinsley for a trip around the Hospital. Kinsley is 15 months old and is being treated for mitochondrial disease a genetic condition that causes life long feeding issues, muscle weakness, developmental delays and other serious symptoms.

Dade, Age 9, swallowed a magnet today which led to an x-ray. But, Dade doesn't seem to mind the attention at all.

Victoria Rogowski found the cutest sock to put on little Gavin's feet.  Gavin is suffering from from Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). CDH occurs when the diaphragm doesn’t fully form allowing abdominal organs into the chest cavity and preventing lung growth. CDH occurs in 1 of every 2,500 births making it roughly as common as Spina Bifida and Cystic Fibrosis.

I am very pleased and proud to present "One Day" at Phoenix Children's Hospital. Myself and 21 photographers donated their time and images to produce this 157 page book photojouranlistically documenting life behind closed doors at the hospital. You can see some of the almost 10,000 images that were donated at www.OneDayAtPCH.com. All proceeds from book sales are donated to the Phoenix Children's Hospital Foundation.
