I'm off to Colorado Springs today to give a presentation to the Pikes Peak Neighbors on "Demystifying Mystery Writing." Hopefully, they won't leave confused! ;)

We enjoyed the GoBreck mixer last night at The Lodge at Breckenridge (yummy appetizers!) and plan to enjoy the Friends of the Dillon Ranger District 10th Anniversary celebration tonight. Then Saturday we'll participate in one of their service projects--tree planting for the Bristlecone Foundation. Life would be perfect if the rain would just let up so we could go out on the trails!

Wish we could, Ed. At least the rain here means more water in the Colorado River coming down into the reservoirs such as Lake Powell.

This is turning into a volunteer weekend. Last night I was a volunteer judge for the Summit High School's Film Festival event and saw lots of creative short films, making it hard to pick 4 winners. This morning, Neil and I volunteered to pick up trash in Breckenridge for 2.5 hours in exchange for a breakfast burrito and a BBQ lunch with 2 beers, live music and prizes (we didn't win any, but we brought home wildflower seed packets). And, we just found out that we got on the volunteer list for the "Bottling Party" at the Breckenridge Distillery tonight-work on the assembly line from 5-9 with a pizza break, free beer, and a bottle of product to take home. "Will work for food or beer" is our slogan! ;)

During this video interview with the owner of the bakery where my son John is the morning shift supervisor, you can see John at work in the background (a proud mommy moment): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNvftCwhc0U

I'm a foodie, so I liked this. Sadly, I can't eat gluten anymore, but love the story.

The Colorado River in the Grand Canyon tops the list of America’s Most Endangered Rivers of 2015.

Stop these massive construction projects from trashing the Grand Canyon. Urge the Department of the Interior to use every authority to prevent damage to the river and preserve the Grand Canyon for all Americans.

I feature an incident of "Dry Drowning" in one of my RM Outdoor Adventures mystery novels, but with an adult. It's a very real medical problem.
http://childrensmd.org/browse-by-age-group/toddler-pre-school/dry-drowning-every-parent-needs-know/
It’s not often that I beg parents to bring their kids into the ER, but that’s exactly what I did when I heard about a child with a dry-drowning episode.  He knew how to swim but he inhaled some pool water by accident.  He coughed a bit, but a few minutes later was back in …

I'm about halfway through The Boys in the Boat and am loving it. Other good books I've read lately include A Monstrous Regiment of Women, Cat's Eye, Smilla's Sense of Snow, and Dreams of Joy. Have you read any good books lately that you'd like to tell me about (especially if any are mine ;) )?

The only thing I didn't like about Smilla was the ending. I don't usually read sports history books, but The Boys in the Boat is so much more than that and it's really gripping.

I'm baaack! I've been away from Google+ for awhile. Neil and I just returned last night from a 19-day trip: 3 nights staying with friends in Ft. Lauderdale (and touring the Everglades) and 16 nights on a Panama Canal cruise on the Norwegian Pearl from Miami to Los Angeles that included stops in Cartegena, Columbia, Puntarenas, Costa Rica, Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala (to tour the UNESCO town of Antigua), and Puerto Chiapas, Huatulco, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, and Ensenada, Mexico. We enjoyed the entertainment on board and shore excursions such as sightseeing, snorkeling and ziplining. We came home to piles of snow still in the yard after steamy hot days in the sunshine. And, I'm starting a diet after eating all that scrumptious food on the ship. Quite a change!

Bestselling mystery author with two series, the Claire Hanover gift basket designer series and the Rocky Mountain Outdoor Adventure series.
Introduction
I write the Claire Hanover gift basket designer mystery series and the Rocky Mountain Outdoor Adventures mystery series, starring Mandy Tanner, whitewater river ranger. I was an avid "river rat" in the 1980s, running whitewater rivers in the eastern US in an open-boat canoe, and I have enjoyed reacquainting myself with that subculture and its updated boating equipment while researching the series. I live in Colorado and enjoy its many outdoor activities, including skiing and whitewater rafting. To find out more, please visit my website.
