Chicagoland winner Brad Keselowski prepares for reset as NASCAR's Chase marches on.
Qualifying has never been so important in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series — just ask the six drivers with the best qualifying average on the circuit. Each has scored multiple wins in 2014. Brad Keselowski is amongst that group. In fact, he leads it. Keselowski’s five wins are a series best, as is his 7.2-place average starting position. That’s what made Sunday’s Chase kickoff race at Chicagoland Speedway unusual.

With all due respect to Indy's grand history, what NASCAR's trip to the Brickyard needs is a shot in the arm.
In a decade of skyrocketing growth for the sport of NASCAR, no single event in the 1990s topped its first visit to the hallowed grounds of Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 1994 Brickyard 400. However, 20 years later, amid sagging attendance and television ratings and a weekend diluted with Nationwide and nondescript sports car ancillary races, the Sprint Cup Series’ annual visit is a shell of its former self.

Keselowski, Logano shift balance of power in #NASCAR Ford camp to Team Penske:
After playing second fiddle to Chevrolet and powerhouse NASCAR organization Hendrick Motorsports for a decade, Ford Racing seems to have found its groove with four consecutive race wins in the Cup Series. And it’s led by a face familiar to the sport but new to Ford’s roster.

Jeff Gordon's fifth Brickyard win? Simply transcendent.
For some athletes, career achievements are done on a grander scale. Every accomplishment has a little more flare, it has more of a trailblazing bent and therefore seamlessly falls into place, making a good story not only great, but transcendent. Think Jeter, Jordan and Montana. Think Jeff Gordon.

Aric Almirola's win saved NASCAR from a forgettable weekend in Daytona.
Thirty years ago, everything lined up just right for NASCAR. The 1984 Fourth of July weekend witnessed the sport’s all-time winningest driver, Richard Petty, score his milestone 200th win. He did so at stock car racing’s cathedral, Daytona International Speedway in a near photo finish — and as if it needed a kicker, with the President of the United States in attendance.
