"...too many students are receiving firsts and 2:1s..." is that because degrees like GCSEs become too easy??? or are students more motivated???

Wow, all change
"Traditional degree marks will become obsolete and a new 13-point system will be introduced because too many students are receiving firsts and 2:1s, the universities minister has announced.

Jo Johnson said the current system of marking university students, which was developed in 1918, is “no longer capable” of giving employers the information they need.

He said that a new 13-point grading system, modelled on those used in America and Denmark, will now be introduced alongside the current honours to allow businesses to differentiate between the thousands of graduates getting high grades."

"The new framework, which all universities will be expected to sign-up to by 2020, could also include a league table measuring quality of teaching and the amount that graduates go on to earn."

"Forced education. Like the term prison, this term sounds harsh. But, again, if we have compulsory education, then we have forced education. The term compulsory, if it has any meaning at all, means that the person has no choice about it."

For many students, school generates intense anxiety associated with learning. Students who are just learning to read and are a little slower than the rest feel anxious about reading in front of others. Tests generate anxiety in almost everyone who takes them seriously: http://humansarefree.com/2015/05/7-sins-of-our-system-of-forced-education.html
Forced education interferes with children’s abilities to educate themselves. In my last post I took...

"Many of the photo album applications on the web require too much work to work. Obviously in order to appeal to a wider audience, these applications do have to have some complexity. I intend to do a lot of travelling in the future, so I wanted something, where I can get my photos off the camera, organise them and add metadata - Location, descrition, GPS data etc locally, organise them into folders and just upload (using rsync) to the webserver. Any changes I make to the local folders - e.g. move photos around are reflected on the webserver. Simplez!!!" - My solution 'Simple Photo Browser' is available from https://github.com/bencellis/simplephotobrowser

Really interesting talk - could we relate the same thing to education

When you look carefully at the way people work, there’s a lot more at play -- and at stake -- than money. Take a look at 7 studies by the likes of behavioral economist Dan Ariely and psychologist A...

Have just come across gitflow -'A successful Git branching model' which has git extensions for implemenation - love it -https://github.com/nvie/gitflow
In this post I present a Git branching strategy for developing and releasing software as I’ve used it in many of my projects, and which has turned out to be very successful.
