Metal Separator GF allows economic processing of regenerated material

The processing of regenerated material and regrind is complicated by possible contaminations with foreign substances such as metal particles. Depending Metal separators allow economic processing of regenerated material on the production system this may cause unwanted machine downtimes due to damage or clogging. The apparent economic advantage thus is quickly lost if downtimes caused by contaminations cannot be avoided. Using metal separators is the most reliable method for removing metal particles.

„With Sesotec sorting systems we have reached a considerable reduction of waste”

BTB PET-Recycling GmbH & Co. KG processes approx. 20,000 tons of PET bottles per year. "Because of continuously falling prices for low-grade PET material on the Asian market we had to develop new economic solutions for PET waste, and our strategy was to reduce the waste volume", says plant manager Mr. Zajontz. "With the new installation of the Sesotec sorting system we have reached this objective."

Polymark was a three-year research project funded by the European Commission that focused on a new technology for the identification and sorting of plastics, particularly PET. The objective of the Polymark project was to increase the level of food-contact-approved recyclate from the PET recycling process by differentiating between PET bottles that were used for food (food bottles) and bottles that did not contain food (non-food bottles).

In an industrial PET recycling process the bottles usually pass through automated sorting machines that separate the PET flow by colour and plastic type. In the Polymark project this approach was used for the development of a prototype sorting machine that is able to sort food and non-food bottles using a UV fluorescence sensor. Sesotec played a leading role in the development of this sorting system.
