This is a nice and sensible blog Jos. There is never a way to please everyone. And on a personal level, I'd like to see a Longer Support than current, even if it's only done in a similar methodoligy to the Ubuntu LTS. But if you are tempted to echo words such as 'Tumbleweed' in my ear, ...fine but it has to be implement better than it is. As a OSF Admin I see too much of the pain users experience with that Rolling Weed. You'll probably need some Rolled Weed to get over the experience. It's great in principle, and I'd love to use it for customers, but I just can't ATM, not the way it is. Updates need to be flawless.

Another part of the issue as I see it is, users like the idea of LTS, but they also want the latest software, particularly in sensitive apps such as web browsers. These are often slow coming in 'TW'.

IIRC the LMDE distro started life much more on the edge, with massive regular updates, but they toned it down due to too many breakages.

So there has to be some assurance of stability and being up to date. If 'TW' could be solid, even through upgrade maybe the current release cycle could remain as is. And perhaps 'TW' could be an installation option as part of the installer?
