Couldn't have asked for a better experience in becoming PADI open water certified. I signed up for the PDI open water class which took place over 2 consecutive weekends. The first weekend was the course in the morning and pool dives in the afternoons. The second weekend was 2 lake dives each day. Everyone at the shop, those who taught us and didn't teach us, were extremely friendly and seemed very knowledgeable and experience in diving. This dive shop really focuses on their students and makes sure they understand the content. As they told us, there is no set pace, the course will go as fast or as slow as they need to go to make sure all participants learn the material and are COMFORTABLE. They do an amazing job with getting everyone comfortable in the gear and being underwater. Not to mention they have fun while teaching you and enjoy being in the water. Our lake dives were in November with cold weather (45 on the surface for our dive on Sunday). The instructors, Phil, Jimmy, and Kendal all were happy to be out there and didn't hurry along because it was cold. They were thorough and made sure we understood everything. If we were cold then they got us out of the water and made sure we got warm, all were very considerate and knowledgeable. I cannot recommend this dive shop enough. We drove from Galleria for the course and would do it again in a heartbeat. If you're not sure about getting certified or have always wanted to this dive shop will teach you all the knowledge and get you very comfortable. THANK YOU EVERYONE AT THE DIVE SHOP WHO HELPED US!!! We enjoyed every minute we spent with you!

I was certified in September 2012. My schedule is chaotic so I needed a place close to my house and with a flexible class schedule. Sugar Land Scuba was amazing in accomodating my needs. Tim was my instructor and I was beyond impressed with his professionalism and knowledge. Since being certified, I have signed up for trips through Sugar Land Scuba. I highly recommend going here.

I started scuba diving in Houston a year ago. I did my Open Water certification with one of the shops which churns out as many certified divers as they can, and, well, I got my certification. That's about it. I live by downtown, so relatively far from Sugar Land, but in my search of some Lavacore gear in my size I ended up dropping by. I met Phil, the owner, and immediately got a very different vibe as compared to the shop where I did my certification. Rather than just seeing me as another customer to try to get money out of, I felt that Phil saw me as a new diver looking for help, and genuinely was interested in me and wanted to help me with what was best for me. Although I was not planning on buying my basic gear (mask, fins, snorkel) at this shop, the knowledge and warmth of him and his staff convinced me, of my own volition, to ask about this gear and then to buy it. After this, for convenience reasons I did some specialty classes at probably the two largest shops in Houston (as far as # of divers certified per year), and also on vacation, but after each course I did I felt I wanted something more personal. I ended up taking the time to go back to Sugar Land for the Underwater Nav specialty, and then my Advanced, and had a completely different experience. The instructor was very knowledgeable, attentive, and really wanted me to learn. It was a much more personal experience than the other places. Since then, I do everything I can through Sugar Land. They are knowledgeable and conscientious about getting me the right equipment in time. I signed up for a group trip with them to Cozumel, which was lead by Phil, who even provided some extra specialty courses free of charge during the trip. I ordered a SS backplate a couple of weeks before the trip, and although they were out of stock at the manufacturer, the shop staff worked very hard to find one somewhere in North America and get it to me in time for the trip. Now, after doing a couple of trips with these guys, doing my Rescue Diver class (such a blast) with them, and buying a bunch of equipment from them, I am working on my Divemaster certification. Even more so than with the basic classes, it's important when doing a certification like this to make sure you pick a shop that will give you the best experience you can get. For me, I didn't even think about any alternatives to Sugar Land Dive Center. Now that I am going through it, it's very clear that I made the right choice. The instructor staff is fantastic and really get behind their Divemaster candidates. I couldn't see myself getting this kind of extremely positive experience anywhere else. So, the bottom line: if you want equipment, this shop carries a lot of great stuff and has a very knowledgeable and helpful staff. If you want to do your certification, this shop will give you personalized instruction that is markedly superior to the higher-volume certification shops in Houston that I have tried. If you want to do trips, you will get fantastic trip leaders and learn lots in the process. And if you eventually want to become a Divemaster or Instructor, get on with these guys from the beginning and you'll be happy you did.

What a GREAT experience ! You want FUN while learning to scuba ? Sugar Land Dive Center is the place to go in Houston. As a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer Instructor, I love to teach scuba and I promote my students to continue their education within the sport of scuba. I also needed to continue my education and started looking for a place I can achieve my next level as a PADI IDC Staff Instructor. I found Sugar Land Dive Center. One phone call and I could hear the enthusiasm and knew this is where I wanted to go. As a co-owner a SA Scuba Shack in San Antonio Texas, a PADI slogan of "DIVING IS FUN" is not just words to me and I quickly found out that Sugar Land Dive Center promotes fun while learning to dive. Thanks to all the Owners and Staff @ Sugar Land Dive Center, I had a blast working with you all and look forward to seeing you guys soon !

Phil and his staff are incredible. He went above and beyond to accommodate all my needs, including arranging my pool dives while my kids were at school so I did not have to meet on weekends or evenings. Robert gave first rate instruction in the pool. All the instructors at the lake were very helpful and professional. They truly care about your satisfaction and especially your safety. This is by far the best dive shop in Fort Bend County/Southwest Houston.

After searching Scuba shops for over a month, we decided on Sugar Land Dive Center. Since the owners, staff and instructors were so patient and polite, it made the hour drive to their shop worth the trip. The owners went above and beyond to help us when something happened to our car in their parking lot. We will continue to use this dive shop exclusively and look forward to advancing our certifications with this dynamic team. Can't wait for the first group trip that come up!
