The Gino’s East story began in 1966 when two taxi drivers and a friend, frustrated with rush hour traffic, decided to open a pizzeria just off Michigan Ave. and Superior St. in Chicago. The Original Gino’s East became an instant legend with local Chicagoans, national celebrities and visitors from around the world.

Well I'm glad I stopped by for lunch. Good price, fun atmosphere, and unbelievable pizza. The wait was a little much (about 1 hour), but I get they have to bake it for a long time.

This pizza was nasty. Ordered a large supreme deep dish. Two hours later it arrived, even though the place is a five minute drive away they must have loaded up a delivery because it was cold. After crisping up in oven, it still failed to be tasty. Sauce like Ragu, overcooked and undercooked veg, floppy greasy pepperoni, rubbery crap cheese, crisco-tasting biscuity yellow crust. It sucks that I had a guest visiting Chicago and we tried this place, not to mention two stomach aches and $40 down the drain. Never again.

It makes all kinds of pizza. Standard, thin crust, brooklyn style, and even deep dish pizza. It not only makes pizza, but it also makes grilled chicken and other sandwiches, including some hamburgers for example. Think you can devour a whole deep dish pizza just like in Man Vs. Food? See what you're made of and see what you like from this place.

To preface this, my first visit was easily five stars, they've lost two stars for consistency though. The first visit here we had the deep dish pizza and it was literally the best pizza I've ever tasted irregardless of city, state or country. Unfortunately the second visit was a let down! The biggest difference was in the crust of the pizza, during our first visit it was extremely crunchy, delicious and perfectly cooked. This was on a Saturday afternoon around 3 or 4, so we didn't have to wait in line, only for the pizza to cook. Our second visit proved the pizza wasn't always a show stopped as the pizza was merely mediocre at best. This visit was on a Sunday afternoon around 4, so running right into the start of their dinner rush (Maybe this was part of the issue?) Even though the lack of consistency nets them a lower review I highly recommend giving them a try. When a restaurant's "bad day" is still ok you might as well give it a shot. Besides the first visit was mind blowing. I advise trying it, but be aware, it's not always so fantastic.

Amazing deep dish pizza! Best ever! Sat at the bar, watched World Series, felt very welcomed by the staff! Great place!

For sure a favorite in the city. The atmosphere is awesome and the staff is super helpful. "It takes about an hour for deep dish" was one of the first things said after we were greeted. Deep dish crust is amazing.

I'm from nebraska a place that doesn't even specialize in pizza and I can say it was pry the worst pizza I've had to date. I had thier bbq brisket pizza which to my suprise had no bbq and was practically brisket covered in ketchup(0.5/10). Will say the crust (9/10) was great as well as the spinach motzerella stick (10/10)
