£84,000 donated to the local community; how we can help you to help others.

Donation requests regularly come through to the Club from an array of excellent charitable causes and this year we have taken a different approach in responding to them.

Charitable giving and the local community play a large part in our company ethos. To honour this, we have set up a scheme which offers £84,000 to local charities and sports clubs in the surrounding area.

We have sent an invitation to 400 organisations, offering the opportunity to claim a complimentary 27 hole four ball and an hour’s simulator session, to help generate vital funds for their selected charities.

Pro Tip 1: The Opponent in Golf.

In golf, the opponent you are facing is not another person, but the golf course itself. In fact, you are facing 18 unique defenses all designed in different ways to challenge and confuse you. The course designer uses features like water hazards, bunkers, slopes, rough, and more to make your path to the green a little more difficult. Your job as the golfer is to navigate all of those defenses and safely get your ball on the putting surface as quickly as possible. Thinking about the game as a progression of consecutive shots, as opposed to individual shots that are unrelated, is the first step toward building a game plan.

We want our courses to be as well reviewed as Nineteen is on Trip Advisor. To do this we need a helping hand.

In a spare moment, please could we ask that you pop over to Golf Shake and leave a review for the Club, it would really make our weekend.

Pro Tip 3: You have a Handicap, Use it.

We all have handicaps, some higher some lower. Yet we seem to forget it sometimes and try to bite more than we can chew. Be humble and use the shots you are entitled to, you will score better, I promise. It is a good habit to mark on your score card how many shots you have in each hole, this way when you look at your score card on the tee box to plan your next shot, you will know how to plan it better. Some might say that it’s more fun and exciting to hit a 300yrd drive of the tee. In my opinion looking for golf balls in the rough is not fun. What I consider fun and exciting is walking away from a green with a par or birdy and knowing it was a direct result of my intelligence and not brute force. Knowing that I used the muscle in my head to go from underdog to a winner and no one saw me coming. NOW THAT IS GOLF.

Pro Tip 2: Make Your Plan on the Tee.

In my opinion, it is a fool’s game to make a plan for the entire course before you play the round. Your swing changes from day to day, and a shot you feel comfortable with in one round might scare you the next. For this reason, I like making a game plan on each tee box when I reach the hole. It will only take a few seconds to look over the hole, consider any areas that need to be avoided, and decide on a plan. As you get more experience with this thought process, you will get faster and it might just come automatically without much conscious effort on your part.

Congratulations to Tracy Marks, George Hair and George Steel for completing 72 holes of golf for Macmillan nurses on the orange course at the Club. A little birdie tells us £1,800 was raised and it's still rising. Well done.
