I love long summer nights spent stargazing! July is the best time to do it!
July is the best month to catch sight of our galaxy's Great Rift, including incubators of stars yet to be. Here's your guide to scoping out this month's mystic Milky Way:

Looking for a more advanced project? Get out the jigsaw and try this Folding Wing Glider! (We were lucky enough to get a kit from the fine folks at Make Magazine to share with the kids this afternoon, but the full instructions for DIY are included on the link!)

Today's Maker Camp project is an awesome Balloon Blimp! This is definitely one to do with a crowd, since you need a helium tank. (We used leftover from a recent birthday party.)

Have you met Super Awesome Sylvia yet? She came to fame as a youth voice for Make Magazine and continues to inspire kids across the country!

We are in FULL Maker mode here at KLC and at home! In addition to the boat project (pictures to come), Gwen built a great Arduino robot with Steve (our electronics teacher and my husband), Caitie made the Harry Potter Ravenclaw signia and a wand at camp, the girls and I tie dyed anything white we could get our hands on, we made easy antiqued scroll work picture frames, the kids harvested amazing "snacking peppers" from the garden, I taught the girls how to put up sauerkraut and make my most awesome pressure-cooker pork chops and we still have KLC's ATC Challenge to look forward to at 7 pm! People ask me sometimes, "What is a Maker?" Well, there you go! That's being a MAKER! What did you MAKE today?

Seriously, I can't say enough nice things about Amy Oyler, a.k.a. The Scientific Mom. I want to grow up to be her. So, read her blog if you love science!

Today's Maker Camp project is a Two Liter Soda Bottle Boat. The rubber bands are twisted to build potential energy which then powers the paddles. We'll be taking ours to the local pool later today!
