When I'm in Kona, I make it a point to brunch at Island Lava Java. An easy walk from the central hotels, it's worth the short wait you may end up facing. You'll be rewarded with the gentle ocean breeze and tropical sun smiling down at you while you munch on macadamia pancakes (try the syrup!) and eggs. Iced coffee is deliciously smooth and made from 100% Kona coffee beans, not a cheap blend. Great for people watching and realizing how content life your life is at the moment.

Great place, funny staff, lovely food, and incredible sunset. What more is there to like?? Ok, here are my favorites... To-die-for Ginger Root Ice Tea (we actually got a Thermos filled for our boat dives to counteract potential sea sickness - at least that was my excuse to get it by the bucket ;o). Ahi Poke, Fish Tacos, Catch of the Day and their Passion Meringe Tart Passion Meringue Tart w/ Macademia nut crust is a must try (or better not, leave some more for me!). Looking forward to go back.

We got the "big island" pizza, and the fish tacos. Very good!

Best coffee shop on the island with the most amazing cinnamon rolls you'll ever eat!

Came for breakfast. $20 for a dry piece of toast with an egg and two bacon strips on it and the "bottomless" coffee which I had to almost beg to get one refill. Food and service sucked big time. The coffee was good, and as I was staying close I noticed they had a couple of really good live musicians, so I could see coming here for that only.

Very over rated. If you enjoy wasting money for a view that you can see for free then this is the spot. Try Kona Coffee shack it blows this place away including the views! Their food is much better too as well as priced lower. Oh and the coffee is free for refills this place charges for refills....very cheap business practice in an environment that is known for coffee. Skimpy on the portions ehhh do I need to go on about this place? With the exception of a decent logo at best this fails to satisfy in every aspect.

It's a good idea but poor execution. If you do not enter the establishment from the front, there are no directions as to how to proceed. The only sign faces the street. We had breakfast there today. This consisted of the macadamia nut pancakes with bacon and a fruit cup and the Big Is-and Breakfast with eggs, rice and Portuguese sausage (in both meals you had a choice of bacon or Portuguese sausage) we added the fruit cup to this meal. The good: the food was delicious for the most part. The bad: the pancakes were supposed to come with sliced bananas but they ran out of bananas. The suggested replacement was pineapple. Huh? You ran out of bananas? The Island produces more bananas than any other place in the country and you run out of bananas? Honestly, I don't see how this is possible. And no...pineapple is not a valid replacement. Second. I got two skimpy slices of Bacon. I get more bacon on my bacon burger from McDonald's! The eggs must have been the smallest eggs in the store because there certainly wasn't a lot of egg in this dish. The rice was brown rice with no flavor. If there wasn't a bottle of soy-sauce on the table, the eggs and rice would have had no flavor at all. The Portuguese sausage? 3-quarter sized slices. Yeah...That's it! And this wasn't cheap either! We left out of there at just under $40 for the two of us, including tip! For breakfast, we would have been better off hitting the Denny's up in town. This is not a place we will be eating at again.

Do yourself a favor and try this great place. whether it be breakfast lunch or dinner the food is fabulous the staff are friendly and you get value for money. And if you're an aussie like me hanging for a "long black" coffee you'll find the perfect cup😎
