For some parts of the country, this means the cold weather is already settling in. As we all bundle up to endure the cold, it is a good time to remind everyone of the rules for fire sprinkler systems subjected to cold temperatures.

Cold temperatures start to be a concern for water-based fire protection systems at around 40°F (4°C) because this is the temperature where fresh water starts to form ice crystals which can progress quickly to freezing as the temperature is lowered to 32°F (0°C) (Lide 2005). The first option available to system designers is to use a dry-pipe system so that there is no water in the pipes to freeze:

8.16.4.1.1* Where any portion of a system is subject to freezing and the temperatures cannot be reliably maintained at or above 40°F (4°C), the system shall be installed as a dry pipe or preaction system. (NFPA 13)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

We are excited to inform everyone that this year that our IFP ATLANTA district office is an official drop off location for the Toys For Tots Donation Drive. This is our first year and we would like to make this a success! We invite you to bring out new, unopened, unwrapped toys and place them in our box setup next to the tree in the lobby ;)

Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. The program was founded in 1947 by reservist Major Bill Hendricks.

Thank You in Advance for your Support!
