Great advice from Debbie Orwat, owner of the Planner's Lounge. I would also suggest that small business owners be disciplined in taking some time off. This is a new lesson for me as I have struggled with multiple businesses and demands and have felt myself fast approaching burnout. I finally started taking one full day off each week with no email, no social media and virtually no computer time. And you know what? The rest of my time has been exponentially productive now that I'm allowing myself to rest. Is it scary? Yes. Do I freak out thinking I won't be able to accomplish everything? Yes. But I've found that a) taking time off helps me better prioritize my work activities, b) I'm more creative and better at problem-solving when I'm refreshed and rested, and c) work really does expand to fill the time allotted to it. When I give myself slightly less time to do my work, everything still gets done!

Ami from Elizabeth Anne Designs has relaunched her business blog and has written a great post about the Midas Whale. What a perfect metaphor for the things we do that know we shouldn't. I have found over the years, I have accumulated so much business clutter. My Midas Whale operates under the false assumption that if I am capable of doing something I should do it. It has gotten me into a whole world of hurt, including no downtime for months and a severe case of burnout. I'm looking forward to getting out from under my enormous Midas Whale. What does your Midas Whale Look like?

While I think Mark Cuban is guilty of the slippery slope logical fallacy when he warns that individuals stand to be convicted because of like behavior online to actual criminals, he makes some sobering points about how little control you may have over your content after it's been sent. While I maintain a policy of remaining positive and professional on my social media channels, I was recently a victim of having a positive PM on facebook cherry picked, misconstrued and reposted as "bullying." It made me realize how important it is to be very selective about who you friend, who you respond to and who you follow. I will be cleaning out my friend list soon. I've realized, it's not enough to stay positive and professional with my messages. I have to be careful about "who I hang out with online."
