Great advice from @RRSPhilosopher in @st_magazine today regarding receiving constructive criticism and how to respond without seeming immature:

1. Ask questions about the feedback eg what are you basing your criticism on? If a response is vague, ask for specifics like "who thinks so?" "who said what?" "may I see the evidence?"

2. Say how the criticism makes you feel eg "I feel more judged than helped" "this is really demotivating"

Criticism is worth challenging - it either disarms a passive aggressive critic or enhances the utility of genuine constructive criticisim. @rrsphilosopher rightly points out most criticism is very lazy, based on perception and prejudice but he misses also a crucial aspect ie lazy or reactive criticism is often self-indulgent and as such is less about the recipient but the the critic.
