Here is a step-by-step tutorial developing your first ASP.NET Core Web Application using the dotnet CLI web template. This is the absolute best way to getting started, because you can familiarize yourself with all the middleware and packages used to create an ASP.NET Core Web App. The initial web template includes all the logging, configuration, and authentication pieces as well as shows off Entity Framework Core with SQLite.

I wrote a quick tutorial on how to develop your first .NET Core C# Console Application on macOS using Visual Studio Code. It's pretty easy, but if you're struggling I hope it can be of help. I'll create a few more .NET Core Tutorials on building ASP.NET Core and Entity Framework Core Apps as well.

Microsoft released .NET Core 1.0 yesterday. I installed it on my MacBook Pro and developed a quick C# console application running on macOS using Visual Studio Code. The debugging support with the C# Extension was pretty good and the new terminal window in Visual Studio Code made it real easy to execute the terminal commands needed to set-up and run the console app. I was pretty happy with the experience. I expect using Entity Framework Core 1.0 and developing ASP.NET Core Apps will be pretty easy, too.

Visual Studio Code supports snippets. I have been using some from the marketplace and was curious how to create custom user snippets. I wrote a quick tutorial that shows how to create a JavaScript snippet that makes it much easier to write React Stateless Functional Components with Properties. This example can be applied to any custom code snippet you want to create in Visual Studio Code.

Snipcart Shopping Cart v2.0 was recently released and so I updated my Snipcart Orchard CMS Modules to support it. I wrote a quick blog post sharing my experience using the Snipcart Shopping Cart GitHub Repo with Visual Studio Code, Gulp, Browsersync, and Sass.

Visual Studio Code allows one to configure Gulp as a task runner and run Gulp Tasks. Although most of your Gulp Tasks will be automated via gulp watch, there are times you need to run manual Gulp Tasks. Here is how you configure Gulp as a task runner in Visual Studio Code and run Gulp Tasks.

Visual Studio Code 1.0 is released. Build 2016 had a great presentation on tips and tricks as well as a sample on using Visual Studio Code with React.js and Webpack.

I upgraded my personal website to Orchard CMS 1.9.3. Both Orchard CMS 1.9.3 and 1.10 have been released for a few weeks now. Orchard 1.9 has a lot of really cool features. If you have not upgraded, I highly recommend it to take advantage of the new Audit Trail, Orchard Layouts, and Dynamic Forms.

If you're looking for an Orchard Web Developer to help you upgrade, I can help you with that, too :)

When did I become that Dad in yoga class that shows off his React.js Meditation Timer that he built with his daughter?

Orchard CMS 1.10 is released and allows Orchard Web Developers to add Parameterized Snippets! Parameterized Snippets are really useful when you don't need the complexity of an Orchard Layout Element, but need the ability to request data for use with a Snippet. This is a really nice feature, but you need Orchard CMS 1.10.
