Hootsuite now throttling free users to 10 Message Limit. Not a problem for me, but when those who use free account attempt to post an 11th message, they get a message. Sorry to see one of my favourite apps degrade the free version to drive customers to Pro version, but that's prevailing biz model, right/

Has LinkedIn removed the ability to reply to a connect request without connecting? I just used that facility this morning, but it is not clear to me I can use it again.

I've been getting a lot of Connect requests lately from people I don't know in any capacity. When I tested this, it seems I too can send a request to people I don't know in any capacity and are out of my network, straight from the Search page by clicking Connect. (Sadly while testing, I inflicted this on two people named "John Smith" , i.e., sent a meaningless request to Connect.)

If I look in LinkedIn Help, it looks like the blank request to Connect is ubiquitous, leaving the personalized request to connect as something accessible only from a person's profile page.
There is no intermediate choice in Settings - "Who can send you invitations" between "anyone on LinkedIn" and "only people that know my email".
I would welcome some enlightenment on this.

LinkedIn did something right for a change. The new Field of Study Explorer http://ow.ly/zHxuZ shows what people in your field of study are doing with their lives? Useful tool for the students and new grads in your life. If you're in LinkedIn, default takes you to the page related to your field of study. (I found 59,211 people who roughly studied in the field I did.)

HubSpot takes a good shot at summarizing essentials here; it may help non social media users (or their management) see the point. Don't take it as gospel on perfect timing. Best times to send updates varies, depending on city, industry etc. For example, in a commuter town, there's a lot of reading that goes on during peak commute times. http://ow.ly/yi6HT

The inadvertent skipping of what we expect causes you to frustrate us, or to appear as an uncaring, unprepared amateur, or both  -Seth Godin  http://ow.ly/xeSdQ Have you experienced - or inadvertently precipitated - this in your organization?
