One of the nicest YMCA's I've ever seen. It's huge and has a pool, weight room, indoor basketball courts, cardio room, and group classes.

Ah, it aint so bad. The pool gets very busy during peak hours. They do oversell memberships the first of the year, and the staff does seem to be forcused on the new membership assembly line. Sometimes on the weekends they just decide not to pick up the phone AT ALL. EVER. Making you take a special trip down there just to reserv a court with no guarentees that there will be one available. But the equipment and facilities are in good repair and i'ts one of the few places in town that has racquet ball courts.

Great, cozy YMCA. My favorite in Asheville.

Poor Customer Service, Poorly Managed. I come here to swim a lot, and half the time can't get into EITHER pool as there is a swim team or water class occupying both pools. The have swim team practice during peak hours, so the pools are unavailable when most people want to swim. I'm an away member, but I frequently use this facility and have for a number of years. I really enjoy the facility but the customer service is HORRIBLE. There is no consistency whatsoever on the protocol for away member sign in. Every time I come, it's something different, and half the time the front desk person seems like they're making it up as they go along. This past time, a front desk person that I have interacted with on MULTIPLE occasions, and who should certainly know my face by now, asked for my photo ID. The YMCA is an excellent organization. This review is not for all of them, but just the one in Asheville. I have been to numerous YMCA's all across the country and have had excellent experiences at most of them. However, this is the one I frequent the most, aside from the one in my home town, and it was MULTIPLE bad experiences, not just an isolated incident, that prompted this review.

I LOVE the group fitness classes and particularly one or two of the spinning instructors. The aquatics director doesn't seem to quite have all her ducks in a row as far as the aquatics programs go, but otherwise... This is a nice, family-friendly gym to go to. Ask about financial assistance if you need it!
