Google's artificial intelligence in search may be getting too smart, at least in the case of court-mandated publication bans. It seems that if you search the names of people who would be subject to a publication name ban, even though no media has actually reported the information, the related stories connected to the individual subject to the publication ban appear in the "related search" function.

The consequences could be dire, especially for an individual looking for work or the like; because it is common to do searches by name in these circumstances.

This story came to light when a local reporter, who would know the names of the "banned" persons because he would have been in the court where the name isn't a secret, keyed in the relevant names and found the matches. Google's response (in my opinion) is the right one: If there is an issue, and it is brought to our attention we'll remove the search association.
