Since he was elected in 2008, Obama has said immigration is a top priority for his administration and yet six years later he has given immigrant communities record breaking deportation and detention numbers. While the Senate passed a comprehensive immigration reform bill last summer and we have the temporary band aid of DACA, deferred action for certain undocumented young people who came to the U.S. as children and have pursued education or military service here, the Obama administration continues to lie about its power to halt deportations via Executive Action in the absence of legislation.

Unless organizers and politicians are willing to talk about the choices that are made in terms of policies that pollute our communities disproportionately and limit economic access, and then change the way business is done,  all the talk about support for “choices” we make about what happens to our bodies is just that that.
