Simple good food, nice staff. Only think keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the subpar coffee.

Know what you're in for. You are NOT getting diner fare, you're getting fussy food that's pitched to the trendy crowd that thinks they're above the simple. Your friend Cindy? The one who isn't gluten intolerant but is doing the gluten free diet and who can't stop talking about it? And her insufferable husband Charles who can't survive unless what he's eating has quinoa in it? They're at home here. Silver Diner has recently added several dishes that are normal for "the rest of us" that want, say, a barbecue burger and aren't interested in a low-fat vegetarian yolk free omelette with edamame beans that were given psychotherapy. There are some things you just can't get. A reuben, a tuna sandwich, that kind of thing. And you have to have a DC lobbyist working for you to get things cooked how you want them. They're not afraid to tell you that they have zero intention of cooking your home fries crispy or your eggs over easy. It's just not gonna happen. I take one star off for not having certain dishes at all, but refusing to cook my food how I'd like it? Two more stars off. And now I look at that two star rating I've given and the more I think about it, the more I think it's perfectly appropriate. The four and five star raters are rating based on their starry-eyed wonder of a "diner" that serves "healthy" food, but do they actually want to eat it? Or are they just impressed by it? Yeah, it IS nice to be able to bring my out-of-town niece (who really DOES have a celiac issue) but let's get ahold of ourselves here. This place is merely okay, and when you want a dish prepared a certain way and are refused, you'll only be annoyed, and the garnish on your dish (pollinated by imported organic bees that were raised in a loving hive) won't make up for that.

This local chain has reinvited the American diner by offering organic and local offerings at a really great price. Often when I can't decide where to go, I come back here! Treat yo self to their excellent shakes.

We've been going here for years. The menu is consistently good and on those rare times something goes wrong they always make it up to you. The wait staff is a little more varied. They're friendly and mean well but the level of competence can vary.

Great experience! We were a group of 9. The staff did their best to find us two tables. The food and the service were above average.

One of my favorite places to hang out and grab a bite at night. Put a quarter in your table jukebox and you'll be able to play music all night long (at least we were able to!). The country-fried steak with mashed potatoes and veggies was really delicious. It was a little salty, but not oily at all. This is definitely not the sloppy, oily diner food I've had before!
