Riding up to Virginia City in the Fall is starting to become an annual event. We had a great ride this weekend, with lots of fun trail, wild horses, blasting train whistles, saloons, and even outhouse races!
Now that Autumn has arrived, it's a great time to explore the areas east of Carson City. These trails and back roads can be impassable in the winter, muddy in the Spring, and too hot during the Sum...

Interested in tubeless tires for your bike or want to make your tubes more flat proof?  Here's a product I recently had the opportunity to try, Blue Seal Tire Sealant.
It was time to do something I've been putting off for months. Reinstalling the tubeless tires on my mountain bike. Not only is the task time consuming compared to a simple inner tube installation, ...

+Ian Emmons Not sure yet.  I'll have to see how long it lasts.  And since there's no anti-freeze in it, it'll be interesting to see how it holds up through the winter.  Working good so far though.

I recently attended a workshop presented by the Carson City Public Works Department. The presentation outlined a proposal to create a bike and pedestrian friendly environment on Carson Street through the downtown area of Carson City. To my surprise, a strong opposition to this project showed up and soured the meeting. The record needed to be set straight.  Please read this article to learn more about this project, and see what the benefits will be.  If you've had any road diet projects in your community, please come leave a comment to share your success stories.

Have a free afternoon? Here's a fun loop out near Fort Churchill State Park starting at Buckland's Station!
Just south of Silver Springs is Buckland's Station, an old two story house built in 1870 by Samuel Buckland from the dismantled materials from Fort Churchill. This site was once a Pony Express stop...

A few weeks ago, the Bike Habitat let us demo a couple Salsa Mukluk Fat Bikes. We rode them in Sand Canyon and up at Lake Tahoe. And we had a LOT of fun. Here's the full report!
I still remember my first mountain bike ride. It was back in 1985 at my local BMX shop. The owner showed us the new bike he just got, a big-wheeled, fat-tired bike with low gearing. Our small-wheel...

Dusty trails, wild horses, steam locomotives, old mining towns, and rowdy saloons. You’d have to be watching an old western movie, right? Not if you mountain bike in Carson City! Just saddle up your bicycle, load up some water and provisions, and ride up into the mountains.

I was recently reading local commentary titled, Driving is Interesting and an Adventure in Carson City. The title is sarcastic, the article really expressing the author’s frustrations with driving in our city. Here's my take on things, but from a cyclist's point of view!

One of the most common accidents involving a bicyclist and a motor vehicle is the right-hook. My friend Jason got right hooked today, run over by a truck, and lived to tell about it.
