This month, team members from Maynard, Massachusetts participated in the 16th Annual “The Taste” event hosted by the Maynard Education Foundation. The event featured food prepared by local restaurants and vendors and lots of entertainment.

Food Service Director, Chris Piercey and team member Joan Irish attended the event on behalf of Whitsons to prepare and serve Mango Pulled Pork with Kale and Quinoa Salad. "It's always great to get to take part in community-based events like "The Taste" and to be able to meet with local restaurants and the families of students who we feed every day,” said Chris.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Maynard Education Foundation’s grant programs for teachers, students, and administrators. Founded in 2000, the Maynard Education Foundation is a nonprofit, private charitable organization that funds ideas and projects that promote and celebrate academic rigor and achievement, excitement about learning, and innovation in instruction.

Chef Ryan Hurley brought the “fiesta” with the Fiesta Fresca promo at Salemwood primary school in Malden, Massachusetts.
Students enjoyed the flavorful menu Chef Hurley and the team prepared which featured Peruvian Roasted Chicken with a zesty Chimichurri Sauce, Roasted Potatoes, Corn and Tomato Salad and fresh homemade Churros for dessert. Students and staff loved trying the day’s menu and cannot wait until the next Guest Chef visit by Chef Hurley.
Great work to Chef Hurley and the team at Salemwood especially Cheryl and John for helping to make the Fiesta Fresca promo possible.

A Super Bowl School Lunch Challenge was presented to Phoenixville School District by Food Service Director, Bob Cutting from Fall River School District in Massachusetts. Mr. Cutting and his staff had stated that if the Eagles would win the Super Bowl, that he would, in fact, send Phoenixville Authentic Portuguese Chorizo, enough to feed the High School students lunch at their World Market station.

If the Patriots won, then Phoenixville’s Food Service Director, Lisa Wright would send Fall River School District steak meat, enough to feed their High School Cheese Steaks!

See the video of the Lunch Ladies challenge made by team members at Fall River in Massachusetts and also the video from Phoenixville accepting the challenge! https://youtu.be/Lz7g2Y1VRBs
