For you dice collectors.
Alright fellow gamers... I'll bet these are the most expensive and exotic dice any of you have ever seen.

They are made of, get this, 10,000 year old Woolly Mammoth tusk.... Only $2,200.

Wow!!!

PbtA GMs

How do you handle this situation?

Players erect a barrier to protect a thing/stop enemy movement. In another game the the bad guys might attack the barrier. In PbtA, the bad guys only get to move when a player rolls. If the player doesn't have to roll...how is this handled?

I just finished the core rules for my love letter to the gaming industry. That's right, this will be my last big game. There will be no Kickstarter for this, no great hurrah. I'm going to quietly develop it on my Patreon, and then release it to the world for PWYW.

And when I say "love letter," I mean everything that I love about gaming: aspects, consequences on player failure, roll/keep and counting hit methods...everything. Here's a sneak peak at the core mechanic:

Roll a number of d6 = your relevant trait, then spend points of effort to keep dice (1 for 1), adding them together to get your total. If you overcome the difficulty, count the dice that came up 5 or 6 (even those you didn't keep) to determine your effect bonus.
Example: Ralph rolls a 2, 3, 5, 5, 6 on five dice. He spends 2 points of effort to keep the 6 and one of the 5s, totaling 11, and counts both 5s and the 6 as a +3 bonus to his effect/damage.

Everything that breaks in playtesting has been recorded –– how to roll, what traits to add when, how to gain and spend effort, special ability rubrics, etc. I'm going to rewrite the draft for clarity, include example character traits, and then post it to my Patreon next week for further development.

It could take awhile before this one goes out, so if you're interested, come join us!

One crew is trying to kill you, the other was hired to protect you.

Which do you trust to have your back?
