The Edmonton Burlesque Centre is proud to present Burlesque with a Latin Twist workshop with the Amazing Violette Coquette!

Learn a short burlesque choreography and pick up some tips on how to add a sexy latin flair and New York style groove to your dancing. We will go through classic burlesque movements using latin ballroom and New York style salsa dance technique, which will help add grounded confidence to your dancing and as you move through life. Expect a good dose of shimmies, grinds, body rolls and feminist side notes. I want everyone to leave this class feeling more in-tune with their confident, sultry and sassy selves! Good for all dance levels: the workshop will cater to the levels of the students in the class.

Concepts we will cover include grounding and balance tips and techniques, vintage bump, grind and shimmy work for upper and lower body and using contrast, and how to create emphasis and emotion in your body movement that your audience can't tear their eyes off.

* Wear stretchy workout clothes that you feel good moving in. Dance shoes or bare feet. Bring a water bottle!

Violette Coquette became a member of Edmonton's Capital City Burlesque troupe in 2012 and over the past few years she has had the privilege to perform at the Calgary Burlesque Festival, Ottawa Burlesque Festival, Vancouver Burlesque Festival and the Hubba Hubba Revue in San Francisco as well as the Edmonton Burlesque Festival and many local shows such as Sinners, Freaks & Queers and Burlesque A La Carte. With years of training in competitive latin ballroom and salsa dancing (she is currently a competitive salsa dancer with SalsaVitus Dance Company), Violette brings a fun latin vibe to the bump 'n grind. She also brings a distinctly feminist perspective to her burlesque practice: your feminist education has never felt so sexy.
