The key life events of billions of people are being preserved and made available to all through the efforts of people like you. Using the FamilySearch online indexing system, volunteers from around the world are able to quickly and easily transcribe the records—all from the convenience of their homes. The indexes are then posted for FREE at familysearch.org. The scanned images of the original documents are also made available for open access whenever possible.
Millions of rolls of microfilm provide census, vital, probate, and church records from over 100 countries for indexing projects. Governments, churches, societies, and commercial companies are also working to make more records available.
YOU CAN HELP by volunteering to index one of the current projects.
Once the records have been indexed, they are published on familysearch.org as, where researchers can learn about their ancestors and add the information they find to their family trees.
