This is a fabulous Vegetarian/Mexican restaurant with a very relaxed bar vibe. Great food, an attentive and very welcoming staff, some great live music on occasion. I love this place.

Pretty good food, especially with those prices. The DJ, on the other hand, was the worst I've heard to date. He would play one song for a maximum of 30 seconds, then change to a different one. And not in a smooth DJ manner, but pretty abruptly. Every once in a while change the volume for a split second to either TOO LOUD or silent. This happened over and over again until I bailed. Again, the food was good, and I'll give the place another shot, but if the DJ is the same, I'm picking a different place.

Food was good and atmosphere was good as well. Will check it out again due too much on the menu to try not enough room in my belly to fit everything I wanted

I like this place. The building itself might have worked well as an auto shop, frankly - it's got clear machine shop/warehouse bones. That poses an atmosphere challenge for the owner's interior decoration plans because, under no circumstances could their Spanish imperialist decorative theme EVER outshout the building itself. What's a bar owner to do? Go light, then. Go light. The Conquistador pays decorative attention to its name and the spanish menu, but does so sparingly. Less is more in this case. Instead, the owners put most of their attention into the menu, the bar, and the skillful execution at both stations. In this way, The Conquistador delivers. The staff has been consistently attentive. The food well prepared and very tasty. Five stars for bar food. Which is fine; if I'm looking for Spanish themed fine-dining, I shouldn't be looking for it in a bar. And since this is a bar, the drinks should carry the evening.... and they do. Try the shandy from the specialties list. The Margaritas kicked my butt, just like they should, thanks. And... with a pool table, shuffleboard table, and pinball machines upstairs, I just can't quite shake the thought that there's a bit of the old style "Portland Confidential" about the joint.. is it possible there's more to the place than meets the eye? Probably not, but it's fun to imagine. And that's what keeps me coming back.

The food is a great star, but bland and disappointing for Portland. The service was adequate, but at the end of the night the server had us split up the check with a pen for her......maybe I'm too old school, but it sure felt like we were doing the server's job. Portland has better to offer. Find it
