Someday, I really need to find out where the term "Hole in the wall" comes from & if it was created as an insult or what? Because, at first glance, this place looks to be exactly that but, it happens to be one of those places that is well worth a closer look. The Twisted Root Burger Co. Has been in the deep Ellum area of downtown Dallas for about 9 years. The buzz around this "Hole in the wall" has reached nearly legendary status and people will venture out of their way for arguably the best burger in town. What Twisted Root lacks in style or finish it more than makes up in fun, personality and atmosphere. With burgers names like the Kevin Bacon and the fact that, when you pay for your food, you can be a wide array of celebrities. Such as Samuel L. Jackson, Dave Chappelle or even Cartman. The bathrooms are adorned with shout outs to Chuck Norris and I do love the fact that there are two single bathrooms for both sex's. Meaning, one seat per person instead of having to share. Its a me thing but, I dig it. So, if you ever find yourself in the outskirts of Dallas, you owe it to yourself to have a close look at this wonderful "Hole in the wall."

Let me start off by saying the burgers are great. Some of the best I've had. I've got a couple of issues, first the condiment confusion. If you're not in the know you're treated like a moron so I hope this helps. All the burgers I saw came with lettuce and onion, but if you want tomatoes you need to ask for them. Side note if I'm paying this much for a hamburger I think tomatoes should come standard. For pickle lovers they have three great pickle options for you, but you have to get them before your burger. Then you need to fish some mayo packets out of a dirty bucket. I've seen other great burger places deal with condiment issue easily with a simple condiment bar. My second issue was cleanliness over all place was pretty grungy. My wife picked up a nasty stain on shirt from the table. Again the burgers are great, but I think they need on some basics to make this my burger joint of choice.

Best burgers period! Service a little slow; but the wait is worth it. Don't go here if you're in a hurry. Stay and enjoy!

Literally just ate the best burger of my life. First time in Dallas and will now only come here for burgers and beer. Another plus is they give you cool name cards as order numbers. Suh Wheaaaaat!

Wonderful food with a solid veggie burger. Can be a bit loud due to the delivery system but I always come back when I'm craving a good burger and milkshake. Unlimited special pickles! Custom condiments is a nice touch.

Not sure why you'd put a tip on your bill, it's not like they even bring you your food. Prolly wouldn't do again. That being said, it was a great burger, great watermelon tea and the pickles were a cool touch too.
