Writer's residency on @Amtrak? This seems tailor-made for me (and definitely complimentary to the research travel I'll need to do). Who wants to start lobbying to get me one of these?

Yeah. I think that's what's breeding the number of applications. I'm curious how they're going to sift through them, or whether they'll ultimately pick randomly (and then maybe vet the selections picked).

Finally got myself in gear to support this crucial reporting project. I know and respect each of the reporters involved (and worked with three on This Week in Earth) and can't wait to see the journalism they produce.

Can Walmart do what regulators can't: get chemicals out out of household products and cosmetics? My latest.

Marc Gunther looks at the manufacturing and regulatory landscape for hazardous chemicals in consumer products. Tomorrow and Thursday I'll take over with detailed looks at what Walmart and Target are doing.

Freelance journalist raised by a pack of lawyers
Introduction
Freelance journalist and storyteller. Currently recounting the story of Melville Jacoby, the first Time Magazine reporter killed in the line of duty and of the young correspondent's adventures amid the outset of a world war: http://lascheratlarge.com/melville/

A writer and multimedia journalist interested in transportation, the environment and stories about place, My work appears in High Country News, the Northwest News Network, Portland Monthly, Oregon Business, Ecotrope, the Ventura County Star, King5.com and elsewhere.

I'm interested in freelance assignments, opportunities with online outlets, public media and magazines. I'm also eager to expand my experience with audio, visual and multimedia storytelling and to share my own knowledge as a writer and reporter.

And I'm always up for a game of pinball.
