Wow, this is pretty scary.  This video was shown on the Today Show this morning where a guy confesses via YouTube to being drunk and killing someone because he drove the wrong way on the highway.  It is scary to think that an innocent life is taken "just like that" because this guy decides to drive home.  The only redeeming thing is that this guy is taking responsibility for his actions and is welcoming his punishment.

This is a very fascinating list of video clips of people getting into #caraccidents in #OverlandPark, KS from the cameras mounted on the stoplights.  It gives some very sobering statistics about the type of accidents people have, whether it's based on #distracteddriving, #DUI, or just being stupid.  Worst day to drive in OP is on Friday for risk of #accident and best day to drive is Sunday, when everyone is cautiously driving to church.

Should the national #DUI #DWI   legal limit be lowered from .08  to .05?  That is exactly what the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration #NHSTA suggest.  That is the equivalent of 1-2 #beers depending on your weight..  What do you think?

It is good to see that noone is above the law.  #DUI   is a very serious charge and whether you are famous or infamous, you can still kill someone if you are #undertheinfluence  and #driving .  Kudos to the #policeofficer  for standing his ground and keeping the roads safe.  It is nice to see #reesewitherspoon  take responsiblity for her and her husband's actions the next day (whether for damage control or not).

This is a crazy situation.  The US Supreme Court has ruled that a Missouri DUI case should be thrown out due to an illegal blood draw, specifically blood taken from a DUI Defendant against his will.  However, the Supreme Court says that it is OK to take blood against someone's will so long as some attempt was made to get a traditional warrant first, not specifying what those attempts must entail.  This leaves the police in not only MO, but across the country in a difficult situation not knowing what would be necessary to satisfy this requirement.  Should the police be able to take blood from someone against their will?  And if so, should it be left to the whim of a police officer?

Jackson County, Missouri judges are slammed for not moving cases along faster for DUI or DWI refusals.  These are cases where the Defendant has refused to take the breathtest and an appeal is taken for the suspension of their driver's license.  Normally a one year outright suspension.  If you are a first time offender for DUI or DWI and refused the test, you may have an option to keep it from suspending you, and actually keeping it off your driving record completely.  Only certain counties are willing to do it, including at this moment in time, Jackson, Clay, and Cass.  Call us if you are in this situation and we can tell you whether you might be eligible.

Be careful out there.  Bad weather is no excuse.  Clean your windows or get a #ticket .  Is this fair?

I was quoted today on the front page of the Kansas City Star about the infamous  #MacksCreekLaw . This is the law that is unique to the state of Missouri wherein a municipality is limited to generating no more than 35% of it's revenue from #traffictickets .  It was designed to reduce #speedtraps around the state.  One thing that I said that failed to make it into the article was that the police could stop as many people as they want and give them warnings and still not trigger an excessive amount of fines. Moreover, if they did write a high number of #speedingtickets and have to give the excess funds to their schools, what is the harm in that?
