Idiots...that's why...

Every bolt has a torque spec. Every one. And torque specs are important....

I just tried to remove my front wheel on my truck. The last one to touch it was my mechanic when he installed new tires.

The tightening wrench which comes with the truck is capable of supplying enough leverage to loosen the lug nuts.....

.....but my mechanic tightened these so far beyond the specs with his air gun that I bent the wrench.

Torque spec is 85 - 115 ft/lbs. To remove these required more than my biggest torquewrench could measure (300 ft.lbs).....I ended up having to use a gun.

Why?

Why does every mechanic put on lug nuts so over-tight that they can not be removed?

What if I had been on the road with a flat? I have a spare & all the necessary tools, but the lugs are just too tight to budge.

Mechanics: please!!!! Stop this crazy habit! Follow the spec!

Doctors and mechanics. The two people I've gone to in which my situation has almost always been the same afterwards if not worse.
