We are assisting UNC with a death investigation in their parking lot. There is no threat to the students or surrounding neighborhoods.

GPD is investigating a shooting that occurred this morning at 2:13am in the 2500 block of 8th St. There is no immediate danger to public.

GPD is investigating a suspicious device in the 1100 block of 9th St. Please stay away from the area.

On March 16, 2016 at about 4:45 PM Greeley Police Officers responded to the 1400 block of 9th Avenue on report of a body found inside a residence. The discovery was made by two Parole Officers when they contacted a parolee at that residence. While checking the apartment on a routine unannounced home visit they discovered the body and notified police. The parolee, David Wayne Batty DOB 091662 was detained and transported to Weld County Jail on Parole violations. The body was found inside a chest type trunk in a closet in the apartment. The body is that of a female adult, and the identification has not been completed at this time. This investigation continues and an autopsy will be completed on the victim to determine the cause and manner of death. Batty has a history of domestic violence.

GPD is currently investigating a hit-and-run accident near 2540 10th St. that caused a power outage in the area (including our Police Department). Thanks to witnesses of the accident, the suspect is in custody on suspicion of DUI. Excel has been notified of the outage.
