Dear Friends,
As we wait out the fuel scarcity and pray for better days ahead, prepare for the days ahead with these survival tips below :-
Sesor's 9ja Fuel Scarcity Survival Guide:
MAY 26, 2015: While we wait out the situation to normalise, prepare to survive the next few days with the following tips!
At a minimum, you should have the basic supplies listed below:
1. Water (bottled water)
2. Food: non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items – get some canned foods as well such as sardines, canned or dried fruit and vegetables. Other things to stock up on are crackers,
3. Flashlight
4. Battery-powered radio
5. Extra batteries
6. Your doctor’s phone number – failing that, a nurse or midwife’s number (a good one o!). Failing those, if you are in Lagos, you can call the Emergency Number 112! If LAWMA, etc. are not coming to pick up your rubbish or you are not being attended to as you should be in a public service situation, you can now call 767 to report (this is now the non-emergency number and we confirmed it this morning!)
7. First aid kit – ensure you have antiseptic, plasters, cotton wool, anti-malaria tablets etc. – do consult with your doctor to ensure you are not self-medicating!
8. Medications and medical items – a really important thing to have handy especially as we are warming and re-warming foods are oral rehydration salts in case you get diarrhea – esp. where you are stooling or vomiting – you can buy pre-packaged ones at the chemist OR make yours at home : ONE LITRE of clean / boiled drinking water (the water should have cooled down) + half teaspoon of salt + six level teaspoons of sugar. IMPORTANT to follow these instructions carefully – always remember – MORE sugar than salt! – courtesy World Health Organisation (http://www.who.int/cholera/technical/en/)
9. Sanitation and personal hygiene items (for ladies, make sure you stock up on sanitary pads, baby wipes in case water runs out – I know, we don’t wanna think about it at all but this is an emergency!)
10. Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
11. Cell phone with car chargers
12. Family and emergency contact information
13. Extra cash
14. Emergency blanket
15. Map(s) of your area
Consider the needs of all family members and add supplies to your kit. Suggested items to help meet additional needs are:
• Medical supplies (hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, etc)
• Baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby food, diapers)
• Games and activities for children
• Entertainment items such as games, books for children & adults.
EMERGENCY NUMBERS: Know emergency numbers to call in your state. In LAGOS STATE, you can call 112 for emergency services AND to report non-functional public services, call 767!
REMEMBER: KEEP HOPE ALIVE! WE SHALL OVERCOME!!
