Always nice to review the basics on headline writing. Great stories are the best sources of great headlines, of course, but great stories often get bad headlines.
Your headlines suck. Here are a few ways to keep your headlines fresh and compelling, and to catch your readers' attention. And none of them involve SEO and Google bots.

I especially like #4 on List Posts: "Why has Cosmo been doing them since at least the 1960s? Because they work." Exactly!

Don is my uncle and has been a phenomenal country/western guitarist since the 1950s. I can attest to the fact that he was an amazing picker in his younger days, with speed, dexterity and tone that just blew people away. He might not play as fast as he did back in the day, but the sound is as good as ever.

Starting an online community is a lot of work -- but you have to invest for the long haul for it to succeed.

Definitely points to keep in mind, thanks.

Interesting +Jeremy Swinfen Green, (I'm glad I don't have to type that out ;) ), because there are certainly risks involved.  Committing to social media means being willing to have the bad, as well as the good out there, and being willing to deal with them both publicly.

What triggers people's urge to share a video? Positive emotions like exhilaration and amazement.

Viral content gets people to look at the content and nothing more. And it trains users to expect a constant flood of catchy crap that does not accomplish beyond 5 minutes of amusement.
Summary: Everyone from BuzzFeed to the Washington Post seems to be chasing after viral content because of the traffic it brings — but all this does is reinforce how doomed the pageview-based model really is
