The bacteria that causes the tooth decay is actually caught from another person. This is why many people who lead apparently impoverished lives have no tooth decay. They do not have that bacteria in their mouths. The bacteria is often spread by a parent licking her finger and then putting it in the baby's mouth, sometimes to keep baby quiet. Good health, healthy lifestyle and healthy diet certainly help to keep the bacteria at low levels.
