www.lensman.eu

I've nearly finished revamping my website. It still needs a little bit of work here and there and it's not optimized for mobiles. If anyone would care to take a look and give some feedback I'd be grateful.

Thanks
Victor

Giants Causeway, Co Antrim, Ireland
Made up of 40,000 interlocking basalt columns formed some 60 million years ago, the Giants Causeway is the most popular destination for tourists in Northern Ireland. The coast of Scotland is visible from here and legend has it that the mythical Irish hero, Finn McCool, challenged a Scottish giant to a fight and built this causeway to enable him to cross to Scotland from Ireland. Geologists might disagree but, whatever the origins of this wonderful landscape are, it is a place that has stirred the imaginations of people for a long time and in Ireland we tend not to let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Castillo de Coca, Spain
This 15th century castle, near Segovia, is one of the most beautiful medieval castles in Spain. Built by Don Alonso de Fonseca, in its day it was of great importance. The thick walls and 560m moat made it impregnable and it wasn't until Napoleon's forces besieged it in the early 19th century that it's defenses were finally breached. The design of the castle has distinct Moorish influences, though much of the interior styling has been lost over the years. Today the building functions as an agricultural school.

Rovinj, Croatia
Sometimes, when I'm working with wide lenses, people enter my shots without realizing it. When this happens, usually I wait patiently for them to leave. But sometimes I feel they add to the shot and I include them. I had set up this shot on a back street in Rovinj because I liked the lines and the textures and the composition as a whole. Behind me, two boys were playing with a ball. The ball came into my shot, followed by the boy. And for a few seconds he stood there, playing with the ball at his feet, seemingly oblivious to my presence. But I knew he added a strong component to the image, and he was standing exactly where I would have placed him. So I took the picture, he went back to his friend, and I went on my way.

Dinant, Belgium
This sleepy town on the Meuse river belies a violent history. It's strategic location on a river along Europe's Franco-Germanic cultural fault line often made it a place to be fought over. Way back in in 1466, the aptly named "Phillip the Good" had 800 local inhabitants thrown in the river while the town burned after they rebelled against his rule. And lest that be put down to Medieval barbarity, one of the first massacres of the First World War took place here in August 1914 when German soldiers executed 674 residents in one day. But it's hard to imagine such scenes as you look across the Meuse at dusk and watch Dinant's ancient beauty reflected in the water.

Vatnajökull, Iceland
Vatnajökull is the second largest glacier in Europe, covering nearly one tenth of Iceland's landmass. As you drive along the southerly part of Route 1 that circles Iceland, the enormous glacier, which is 1000m thick in places, comes down to meet the road. It is truly an amazing spectacle.

Dutch Windmills

A slightly different take on the usual Dutch windmills theme. I spotted this in Friesland a while ago, an interesting juxtaposition of old and new technologies.
