Just because Mike Scoba was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1949, that wasn't the most important thing he did for our country. With war sweeping Europe, he volunteered for the Army in March 1941, nine months before Pearl Harbor. Serving as a First Sergeant, his company of 52 ambulances landed two days after D-Day on Utah Beach, crossing through the hedgerows of Northern France, the Ardennes, Central Europe and the Rhineland. Mike was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions during this period and was discharged in March 1945. Then he turned down a draft selection for the LA Rams and went on to teach and coach at Beacon High School - one of the most important, impactful jobs. I wonder what heroes live right in your neighborhood. There are more positive stories out there than you know. Ask an older neighbor next time you have some time, "I'd love to know YOUR story - how did you come to live in this neighborhood."

Have you seen the new shark exhibit at the Georgia Aquarium? spotlight on an important issue -- the disappearance of sharks. They're hosting the traveling exhibit, Sharks: On Assignment With Brian Skerry.I haven't been there yet, but plan on making a visit. The exhibition remains at the Aquarium through April 2018.

Sometimes we forget to be tourists in our own town and those we visit frequently. When you travel to another city, skip the shopping and restaurants - focus on what is UNIQUE - the HISTORY, the CULTURE. This article has a great list for Atlanta MUST SEEs. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/atlanta-crossroads-of-the-world_us_59e611ace4b08c75593ce68e

Some include:
One of our favorites: Georgia Aquarium along with the College Football Hall of Fame
Center for Puppetry Arts (with Jim Henson’s collection)
Center for Civil and Human Rights.
the World of Coca-Cola
The Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum
Margaret Mitchell House
Atlanta History Center
High Art Museum

It warms our hearts that experts from around the world were able to fly to Seward, AK to help with beluga whale rescues. I learned a lot about them in this article. http://peninsulaclarion.com/local/news/2017-10-07/stranded-beluga-calf-recovering-seward Help was sent from: Georgia Aquarium, Shedd Aquarium, Vancouver Aquarium, SeaWorld and Mystic Aquarium to aid in treating the calf. Of these, three or four at a time keep watch in the calf’s quarantine room 24 hours a day. You never know when your expertise will be needed. Thank you to these experts for answering the call and those facilities for sending them.
