Dungeness is a headland on the South coast of England that is littered with old boats, huts and buildings from a bygone era. The area is also famous for the Denge sound mirrors, which are spectacular remnants of a dead-end technology. Essentially primitive radar, the sound mirrors were intended to provide early warning of enemy aeroplanes (or airships) approaching Britain across the English Channel during WWII.
The building featured in this photograph is the Military Radio HQ which picked up the transmissions from the 'listening ears', with the great rift in Cygnus as a nice backdrop :)
