Although the modern science may need further study, Chinese Music Therapy has been practiced traditionally since antiquity [1,2]. The five basic tones consist of 宫, 商, 角, 徵, and 徵. These correspond roughly to the notes c, d, e, G and A [3,4]. They also correspond to colors, times of the day, and internal organs. In the video we add this progression using a Scale Tapper pitch constellation and use it to play a simple melody. Scale Tapper is available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad [5].

Is "Chinese" a language? Can someone really "Learn Chinese"? Chinese can refer to a language family with the most popular form being Mandarin, followed by Wu, Cantonese, and Min [1]. So most people in the West use this term when they really intend to say Mandarin or one of the other popular forms. There are even various ways to refer to the spoken and written forms themselves [2,3]; Pǔtōnghuà literally means "common speech", while Guānhuà means "speech of officials", further Guóyǔ signifies "national language", and even Huáyǔ is seen. Also Chinese [4] refers to a much broader spectrum than simply a language. Chinese is all at once culture, people, cuisine, music and dance, literature, and art encompassing many other topics. With a rich history that has profoundly influenced the world it also refers to a language family with many dialects [5].
