I am donning a new role, as Director - FinTech for iSPIRT (Indian Software Product Industry Round Table). This role involves working with banks, startups, technologists and policy makers, to make India a leader of the FinTech world. Over the last 12 months that I have been volunteering for iSPIRT's Software Patents Expert Team, I have been very impressed with iSPIRT's vision of building a powerful software product ecosystem in India. I believe that this will be as big, or even bigger than the rise of India's $100 billion software services industry. In the next decade, this can lead to the creation of Indian tech companies that will become global brands to be reckoned with.

More specific to my role, which is to work with banks to build the FinTech Leadership Council (FTLC), I am excited by the opportunity to work with some of the finest technologists in India, and some of the largest banks in India, to make Financial Inclusion possible for millions and millions of Indians at a cost and scale that was never feasible before. Wish me luck, folks!

Prabir Purkayastha, a policy pundit I deeply respect, takes apart FaceBook's cleverly misleading "FreeBasics." http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/op-ed/nothing-free-or-basic-about-it/article8042334.ece …#‎savetheinternet‬ ‪#‎stopfreebasics

Facebook itself is a walled garden. When you tag a post "Public" on Facebook, it is not searchable by search engines. ‪#‎SayNoToFreeBasics

Open Invention Network, the organization that I represent in India, celebrated 10 years of protecting Linux and Open Source from patent aggression. We recently crossed 100 members in India and 1,700 members worldwide.

There are worries over whether the Silicon Valley visit to IT giants involved any dilution of India's stance on software patents and Net Neutrality. Hopefully, these worries are baseless, but only time will tell.
